Soon, there shall appear in this space, the adventures of Bob & Greta as they join the Baja Haha XXI Rally and head south aboard S.V. SPARX (pictured above) in the fall of 2014, on the retirement cruise of a lifetime to Baja California, the Sea of Cortez (and beyond. . .???)

10/18/2014

It’s all gotten real, we’re progressing nicely, with the invaluable help of crewman Carey Richardson.  Anticipating departure from LB on Monday for a short shakedown cruise, ending up in San Diego on Wednesday (10/22).  From there, we’ll do some last-minute equipment checks and provisioning.  The remainder of our crew, Donna Sehabiague will join us on Saturday, and we depart for Turtle Bay, B.C.S. (with 169 other boats) on Monday (10/27).

Track our progress on www.marinetraffic.com.  The site has real-time postings of ships’ AIS signals with position, course, speed, etc.

 The Boat

SPARX is a 37 foot O’day center-cockpit sloop. She was designed by C. Raymond Hunt Associates, and built in 1982 at the Punta Bangor shipyard in Bangor, Maine. She was rigged/commissioned at O’day’s west coast facility in Costa Mesa, CA. She is PHRF rated at 183. She is hull number 211 of 219 built, was launched as “First Step” and later called “Ragg Doll”. We purchased her in July, 1994, re-named her “SPARX” as a tribute to the ships’ radio operators of old, and obtained USCG documentation #1025294.
